1) Sl offers its residents a wide variety of opportunities for creation and design. What elements inspired you, to begin creating? (Detail what particular items you offer to the residents of sl)
*I’ve been designing clothing for “Virtual Worlds” since 2010, I just wanted to offer something “real” alongside some of the more fun stuff. When I came to SL a year ago they were my intentions. It took me a while to find my ground, and see for myself what SL could offer not just the designers but the wearers too. My inspiration was simply to get back into photoshop and enjoy. I primarily use Mesh in my clothing range and the templates out there for creators is vast, i found what i liked, what i would want to see on my avatar and I took it from there. I not only want to offer complete outfits but to also offer individual pieces, to allow people to mix and match what they buy. Just as we do in the real world. Slowly im teaching myself how to make Mesh and hopefully someday I will be using my own designs in my products.
2) Success is often the ability to turn obstacles into opportunities. What have been some of your greatest achievements since you began designing?
*My greatest achievement is probably opening my own inworld store so soon. It might be small at the moment but it has everything in there. I didn’t think I’d ever open up in-world but now i have, my aim has gone a little higher. Lucky Chairs, Midnight Mania, group discounts, group gifts, Gift Cards, I offer them all in-world. You gotta give your customers a reason to come back, and want to come back..
3) Learning is a lifelong process, and none of us are expect from the lessons life teaches us. What has been the hardest things to overcome, and what lessons has it taught you?
*My biggest hurdle has been myself, my self criticism and not believing in myself. I’m lucky to have some good friends as supporters who have given me a boost and a shoulder of support, and even a kick up the back-side when its been needed too. I’ve all but given up on a few occasions but they’ve kept me going and not allowed me to quit. We can’t work 24/7, I know when i need to take a break and i dont feel guilty about it. I’m enjoying what i’m doing.
4) What are your plans for the future where your business is concerned?
*Well, as already mentioned, I’m learning to create my own meshes so i hope to be able to bring those into world in my product line one day. I just want to keep getting better, learn and understand new tricks, to better myself and my products. I’m also aiming for my own store on my own sim.
5) Based on your own experiences, what advice would you offer to new builders, designers and content creators?
*The best advice is to be strong and don’t give up. Its all too easy to say “I Quit” when you screw up a design your working on, or when an outfit just doesn’t seem to meld together. Its easy to walk away from something but much more rewarding to fight on and keep going. You need to give yourself time off too, or at least I do, When you are constantly pushing yourself aiming for near as dammit perfection, its easy to get burnt out an hit those brick walls of design block. If it happens to you then dont panic or worry, just take a few days to chill and relax and have some fun and the brain will soon be begging to work again.
Hope’s Favorite Design:
“Makin Bacon” I don’t think I’ve really got a favorite yet so far but this comes pretty close. It was part of a collection of 5 outfits, one of my latest releases. I chose this because its fun, casual, not too girlie but kinda cute and i love the little piggie print shoes that i included with this. It was fun to make and yes i do wear it myself.”
